IIT Indore shift towards Simrol

The Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT) has taken first step towards Simrol, where its own premises is to come up, following the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya ( DAVV)’s unwillingness to let it continue to function from IET campus for longer period than the one fixed initially.

Sources in the IIT Indore said, ‘The institute wants to move its academic activities to the new campus by 2013 end anyhow.’Initially, the institute had planned to shift to Simrol by the end of 2011 and accordingly, it had inked a pact with the DAVV for IET campus till June 2012. But, nothing went to plan.

The IIT- Indore has invited tenders for construction of boundary wall on the Simrol site at a layout of Rs 5.9 crore.The tenders would be opened and contract awarded on February 17 after which construction of boundary wall will begin.The IIT has set a target of 15 months for construction of the wall.During this construction work, the elite institute is expected to start building its academic and administrative blocks as well.
