At IIT-I: Bioscience, engineering courses

INDORE: The Indian Institute of Technology, Indore, is mulling over to start undergraduate and master’s courses in biological sciences and bioengineering to emphasize research and development. The courses are likely to start by the next academic session. IIT-I, perhaps, will be the second among its counterparts, apart from IIT-Kanpur, to start courses in the stream.

The institute has invited applications from outstanding scientists to hold faculty positions in the fields of molecular biology and immunology, structural biology and chemical biology. After the institute finds faculties in the stream, an approval for starting the courses will be sent to the ministry of human resource and development (MHRD).

A source in the institute confirmed that the process has started. “The institute is planning to start undergraduate, post-graduate and integrated courses in biological sciences and bioengineering. Once the faculty is identified, proposal for approval will be sent to MHRD. Initially, around 40 students will be given admission,” said the source.

The admission to the courses in UG courses will be given through JEE while for PG courses candidates having excellent GATE score will be considered.
