National gloom casts shadow on army function in Mhow

The national outrage over beheading of a soldier by Pakistan army last week cast a shadow on the 64th Army Day celebration in Mhow on Tuesday.
The army celebrated the day with simple wreath laying ceremony at the Infantry Memorial.
Army Day is celebrated on January 15 as it was on this day in 1949 that General Kodandera Madappa Cariappa took over from General Sir Francis Roy Butcher as Commander-in-Chief of India.
The mood was sombre as the army is still mourning the beheading and mutilation of the bodies of two of its brave soldiers Lance Naik Sudhakar Singh and Lance Naik Hem Raj of the 13th Rajputana Rifles in the Poonch sector early this month by the Pakistani Army. As a mark of respect to the martyrs their photographs were kept at the base of the Infantry memorial.
Officers and soldiers from all three premier training institutions and other station units of Mhow were present at the function.
